For thousands of years Oron Vi’Eirson has lived each day trying to keep the pain and devastation caused by his family from hurting his precious baby brother. But despite his best efforts his past has come back to haunt him, placing not only Darian and Amelia in harm’s way, but also his newly found mate.

Isabelle Campbell, or as she likes to be called, Izzy, is a mess. She knows this. It’s never intentional, but somehow her curiosity always seems to run away from her. When her latest gaffe lands her homeless and fired from her favorite barista job she is left little choice but to accept the kindness of some of her favorite customers, little did she know that by doing so, she would find herself starting the biggest adventure of her life!

With kindred spirit Meryn at her side, Izzy takes on the entire fae city to protect the heart of the kindest man she has ever met. If the golden fae think they can get away with hurting her mate, they are sorely mistaken. After all, her new friend likes to electrocute people.

When facing your greatest fear means facing your family, is there any escape? Can Izzy help Oron stand against all odds?

More of a transition than a book

Don’t get me wrong, this is a great series and I encourage you to join us. However, this particular entry in the series felt more like a transition than a book. We finally have started to get answers to some very old questions. We learned the Fae world is more complex than we thought, and two new dangers were presented to us. But. There was very little action even when there could have been some. I found Izzy to be quite tame. To be honest Meryn was rather tame as well. I love Meryn’s antics. But I guess with the pregnancy advancing her antics are more confined to words than actions these days. I think we waited about a year for this book, and I must say, I do not feel rewarded for my patience. *** *** (Edit added 14 Jun, 2020 And now it has been a year since My Solace was published. I have started to wonder if the author is just tired of writing this series.........................

Meryn's Story Continues

My Solace by Alanea Alder is book number 11 of her Bewitched and Bewildered series. The books has its pros and cons. Pros: Oron and Izzy are likable characters. They had the potential for a great story and they are actually a good match. The fee kingdom is a very interesting setting, and there seems to be a lot that can be explored there in upcoming books. Finally, Ms. Alder has a wonderful sense of humor that helps bring her characters to life. Cons: The main couple did not get much page space and their relationship was rushed. While the series appears to focus on a different couple in each book, the truth is that the focus of all the books is the character of Meryn, who is the heroine in book 1. Notice I did not say the story of Meryn and her mate Aiden. I said Meryn, because she manages to take over every single story in this series. If you come into the series with this in mind, then you will not be disappointed when all your other favorite characters get sub-par stories where they never get enough page space. Mind you, Meryn is a great character, but there is only so much praising of Meryn, explaining how much everyone loves Meryn, how she can do no wrong, and so on that can happen before it all starts feeling contrived, repetitive, and cheesy. Even when the featured couple is having alone time, half of their conversation centers on Meryn. I wanted to read about Oron and Izzy, not another book about Meryn. The second problem I had with the book is the amount of characters mentioned. I found it hard to remember everyone, probably because none of these characters made a strong impression on me even in their own books due to Meryn and her overshadowing of other characters (except for the Alpha Unit, whose books were somewhat better as far as the Merynmania.) I re-read the earlier books to help with the confusion, but honestly I had very little emotional connection with the other characters and thought it might have been better for the author to bring back only a couple of older characters and leave everyone else back where they came from. Maybe the page space should have been used to introduce new characters that will appear in this arch of the series (she did some of that but nowhere near enough for it to matter,) or even better, focusing on Oron and Izzy. In conclusion, I like the author's style, her sense of humor, and the world she has created. I like her characters (including Meryn.) However, this book falls short because it fails to deliver what the blurb promised: a story centered on Oron and Izzy. This book is definitely not a standalone. New readers should start with book 1 of the series. Readers who follow the series may want to re-read the old books because there are too many characters mentioned here from older books and it is easy to lose track of who is who.

1/2 & 1/2!

This book was excellent in that it answered the burning question of who was Meryn’s father. Oron now has a new last name & a mate named Isabelle “Izzy” Campbell; got some more relatives & a house brownie. This book also had some hilarious moments & not necessarily with Meryn. As Izzy does some crazy stuff too. Izzy according to Meryn is the Coffee Goddess as she used to work in a coffee shop as a barista before she accidentally burned it down (that’s 1of the many reasons why you need to read this book). Felix was reunited with his younger brothers Feris & Finley & Meryn took them in too. There are Goblins in this book that adore Meryn also as they knew her father. I will have book hangover as I couldn’t stop reading this book once I started.

HOLY $@#BALLS

This book was EVERYTHING!!! I cannot even begin to express my love for this series. It is absolutely one of my all time favorites. It just keeps getting better and better. Whatever you do make sure you do not read ANY spoilers. Trust me you want to experience everything as it happens. It is just so freaking good. Alanea Alder's brilliance shines through once again. We learn so many new things in this book. You have to read this series from the beginning. There is a different couple at the center of the book who are mated, but there is a long running arc that you will never get if you do not begin at the beginning. Believe me though, you will be happier than I can explain to have so many fantastic books to read. I already cannot wait to do another re-read of the series. I do not want to give one single thing away from My Solace so I will just end this review with if I could give this book more than 5 stars I would. Enjoy!!!!!!!

**Spoilers... very disappointing ... who wrote this nonsense???

This was a very disappointing read. Oron and Izzy's story was not given enough thought and development like all of the other characters from the previous books. There was a lot of comings and goings by new and previous characters...at times they were referred to as he/she but it wasn't clear which he or she was being spoken about because the paragraph wasn't detailed enough and didn't make sense. This felt like it should have been book 10.5 instead of book 11. Spoiler: how do the guys not find the women after hours of them being missing?? I can't see how they didn't think to look on the forest for them....I mean both women are itching for trouble...also that whole part didn't really fit into the book much since nothing was really done with it afterwards. And when did Meryn turn into Vanellope from Wreck-it Ralph??? Her way of speaking becomes ridiculous at times...She doesn't sound anything like she usually does...I wasn't a big fan of how Izzy's character was written or how the queen seems to have never taken notice or issue with how Oron was treated his entire life(after she adopted him)... The queen says she loves the goblins.... they're her children but for thousands of years she doesn't bother with them so basically from her example no one else does either.... the entire premonition thing is just a no for me..... I could see her having the premonition but you lost me when they were able to talk to one another....no one really acted like themselves ... I have loved the other books in this series... this one fell flat and I'm sorry but by book 11 they're really shouldn't have been so many damn typos! I wish she would toss this book out and redo it... I feel cheated! I'm usually psyched for the next book... this time I'm peeved....I feel like she spending more time rewriting a series she started before it's called Kindred of Arkadia(which was never finished by the way) instead of putting 100% into this series... that other series was ok...it was rather annoying at times with all the crying...pick one series and finish it so they both don't suck a$$

Much Anticipated and So worth the Wait!

I probably am not the most impartial person to review any book in this series but I will do my best. If you are looking for shifters, vampires, Fae, and witches all mixed up with snarky, chaotic, misfit humans who just add more fun to the mix then this is your series. I strongly recommend beginning with Book 1 “My Commander” so you get all the inside jokes and understand the overarching plot line of the series. “My Solace” is Book 11 and takes us from Noctem Falls, the underground city of the vampires, to Eire Danu, the parallel universe city of the Fae. The most exciting piece of this book is the final reveal of the main character, Meryn’s, heritage. But all is not right in the Land of Eternal Sunshine. New connections are formed, old alliances renewed, and new friends made. This story focuses on Oron Vi’Eirson, unit warrior for Gamma Unit in the shifter pillar city of Lyconia, who is also the adopted son of the queen of the Fae. He meets his mate, Izzy Campbell, who is human, at the very beginning and they develop their relationship as Izzy becomes familiar with the realm of the paranormal and we discover she is very much like our beloved Meryn. She immediately fits right in with the inner circle of friends. You will not regret taking on this series. I promise it will become a must buy, can’t put down, part of your library as it has mine.

Befuddled

I enjoy Alanea's stories. Oron and Izzie are the newest addition. Plenty of laughs. However, this book felt harder to track the plot line. I love dialogue, but this book was almost entirely dialogue and it made it a little more difficult to discern what was happening in the timeline. I've honestly lost track of what exactly is going on. I'd like to see a strengthening and revisiting of the plot in the next book. And while enjoy Meryn, each book seems to be more and more Meryn-centric rather than the couple the book is supposed to be about. Everyone adores her. She's perfectly quirky and everyone fawns over her. For some reason, it's starting to wear out. Let the main couple of each book be the main focus. Having said all that, I was still very entertained and will definitely get the next book in this saga. 😊

Wow and then wow - loved this book

So where do you begin to review this book. At the start is when it all begun and for that you need to know Meryn. Everything we learn is about each mating and how Meryn fits into a puzzle that with this book just made some things so clear - and then makes you want the next book. Now I can understand the little wait for My Solace. When I started this book, seriously it felt like I came home. These characters are family to me. So reading about them made me feel all warm and happy inside. Ms Alder, that first chapter or two, had me in so much tears... and I was hurting inside (just letting you know). To see that emotionally Meryn has grown to allow her brothers into her heart - loved that. But also to see that a tiny "human" could bring together different supernatural beings, just amazing - that is one of Meryn's super powers. We already know Oron as he and Darian are brothers and children of the Fae queen. Oron has a dark past and with this book we learn a bit more. Do note that Oron is an honorable male - and I fell for him so hard, but Kendrick is still my man, oh and Law. Izzy is such an amazing woman. She is like our Meryn, she understands Meryn. She has good intentions, but sometimes it leads to not such good outcomes. I love the way she protects and love Oron, with no hesitation. She saw how people treated him and when she had the opportunity to confront them, well it was hilarious and trust me, Meryn was not very far from that scenario. The two of them (Meryn and Izzy) can't stay out of trouble. When you say don't do it, you just as well tell them they have to do it. That led them to an interesting path and well, while Ryuu is with them, Meryn is bound to be protected any way. We learn about so many things, Meryn learn about herself. She is definately more than anyone thought. Oron gets a few surprises. They receive special blessings and all those goodies. And regardless of all that, Meryn is still our little Menace. There are such a lot of revelations and new developments my head spun a bit. I loved this book and with each book Ms Alder just gets better and better. I love that with the delevopment of each bonding, the couple get they story while the true main character, Meryn, has her intricate story unfolding as well. And don't forget that her mate, Aiden, is always there for her. In the good, sad and crazy times. Such a good mate. And don't forget our handsome Ryuu that would protect his charge with everything in him. He is so amazing. We have so many of our older characters back and like I said, its like coming home. Keelan is not forgotten, ever. But he will get his chance, I believe in this. The fae is in for the ride of their lives! Meryn is there and nothing will ever be the same again.

Happiness is reading My Solace.

I so enjoyed my solace, but in truth I love all her books, they resonate in my soul. I smile so hard my face hurts and I laugh and cry and get to feel a happy innocent joy I haven’t felt in many years. I wait forever for her books to come out and always preorder well in advance. Then much to my own weakness I go and read the book in one day. I try to pace myself so I can make it last, but never succeed. I loved Oron and Izzy’s story, I had a soft spot in my heart for the huge fae warrior. Oron truly needed Izzy, her faith in him and her love and loyalty were what his soul craved and needed. He was what she needed, someone special who would accept her as she is faults and all. There are a lot of surprises I didn’t expect concerning merlyn and aiden and I loved how down to earth the queen and her mate were. I am already looking forward to the next book in the series. I will be patient and will read all the series again while I wait. Thank you Alanea for sharing your wonderful storytelling talent with me. Bless you.

Great Story

Izzy and Oron are two people that are broken, but when they're together they fit. The story made me laugh out loud at times. These warriors are fierce, loyal , honorable and total bada$$es. However, when they meet their mates they become the ultimate mushy alpha males. There have been some negative reviews about Meryn being in each and every book. I think she has to be there. Meryn grow up with a cold and unfeeling grandmother that treated her like she didn't matter. She had zero social skills and the only way she survived was by keeping to herself. Then she meets Aiden and the unit warriors and she is brought into a world where she does matter. There is a darkness that is spreading across the paranormal world. Each story in the series is a puzzle piece of what is happening. Each unit warriors mate is a part of the solution that could save their world. The ruling government of each paranormal city is so set in their ways that they don't see the danger until it's too late. Meryn gives them all a reality check. When the pressure and tension of the situation of what's going on affects them Meryn is the one that brings them back from the abyss. Each book is worth the read.
