I just now, after reading the comments realized how lucky I was to always have food I liked. My parents divorced and when things got hard (actually I never noticed) I still could go to my grandparents next door and eat a home cooked meal with them.

I some times had boiled rice for days. Bought a big cheap bag of rice and kept it for those hard times. I think having a few hard parts growing up or as a young adult really helps you appreciate what you have. And helps build character.

These are struggle foods? Those were rare treats when I was a kid. I remember living off of pinto beans and home fried potato slices with a glass of water for years. It was amazing to even get a nice cup of iced tea or a can of soda. Somehow my I felt happier in those times though. :/ My whole family was happier then. Barely any TV, no internet, no phones or video games. Just the family spending time together. Man I miss being a kid. :/ I might drop technology for awhile. I think a lot of people should. Get back to the basics every once in awhile.
